PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from the Arica Store.

WE DO NOT SELL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

Personal information we collect

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information”.

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

  • “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.
  • “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
  • “Web beacons”, “tags”, and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

Additionally when you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information (including credit card numbers, email address, and phone number. We refer to this information as “Order Information”.

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Order Information.

How do we use your personal information?

We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

  • Communicate with you.
  • Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud.
  • When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.
  • Unless you specifically decline to be contacted (opt out), your Name and Email Address may be made available to licensed Arica Sponsors and/or Organizers, in order to let you know about upcoming trainings, group practices, and other events.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

Sharing your personal Information

We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, we use Shopify to power our online store—you can read more about how Shopify uses your Personal Information here: https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy. We also use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site—you can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/. You can also opt-out of Google Analytics here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

Behavioral advertising

We do not use behavioral advertising algorithms or systems.

Do not track

Please note that we do not alter our Site’s data collection and use practices when we see a Do Not Track signal from your browser.

Your rights

You have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please write to contact@arica.org.  

Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada the United States, and other countries where Arica Sponsors reside or present trainings.

Data retention

When you place an order through the Site, we will maintain your Order Information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete this information.

Special Notice to European Union Area, Switzerland, and United Kingdom Users

The following provisions apply only to users residing in the European Union Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Please note, pursuant to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), we are required to provide those residing in the EEA, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (hereinafter, the “EU Users”) additional information and rights related to the Personal Data we collect about them. We summarize such information and rights below.

For the purposes of this GDPR Privacy Notice section, “Personal Data” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable person.

Purpose for Information Collection

As noted in this Privacy Policy, you may visit our Site without being required to provide us with any Personal Data. However, should you decide to provide such information, the information we collect will be used to meet your requests, or to provide you with the applicable information or service requested, and as further described herein.

Legal Grounds for Processing Personal Data

Arica will process personal data that we receive from EU Visitors on the ground that it is in our legitimate interest for the effective administration of the Site, to fulfill and/or address your requests, or to provide certain services.

Sharing Your Personal Data

We may share your Personal Data as further described in this Privacy Policy.

Your Information and Your Choices; Withdrawal of Consent

GDPR provides EU Visitors with additional rights in respect to the Personal Data we hold about you, including:

  • The right of access
    If you ask us, we will confirm whether we are processing your Personal Data and, if necessary, provide you with a copy of that Personal Data (along with certain other details).
  • Your right to correction (rectification)
    If the Personal Data we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you are entitled to request to have it corrected.
  • Your right to erasure
    You can ask us to delete or remove your Personal Data in some circumstances, such as where we no longer need it or if you withdraw your consent (where applicable).
  • Your right to data portability
    You have the right, in certain circumstances, to receive a copy of Personal Data we have obtained from you or otherwise collected.
  • Your right to withdraw consent
    If we rely on your consent (or explicit consent) as our legal basis for processing your Personal Data, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time.
  • Your right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority
    If you have a concern about any aspect of our privacy practices, including the way we have handled your Personal Data, you can report it to the relevant supervisory authority.

Upon appropriate written request we will update or amend your Personal Data, but we reserve the right to use any information previously obtained to verify your identity or take other actions that we believe are appropriate and lawful. You may access, correct, or request deletion of your Personal Data—or request that we stop any processing of your Personal Data—by contacting us at the address listed above. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe. Certain requests—like being removed from our e-newsletter mailing list—can also be accomplished via our unsubscribe links.

We may need to retain certain information for record-keeping purposes, and there may also be residual information that will remain within our databases and other records, which will not be removed from such locations. Additionally, there may be circumstances in which we are not legally required to comply with your request because of the laws in your jurisdiction or because of exemptions provided in data protection legislation in general, and GDPR in particular. Finally, we are not responsible for removing or deleting information from the databases of third parties (such as service providers) with whom we have shared information about you, but we will make the request on your behalf for such removal/deletion.

Data Retention

We will retain your information for as long as needed to provide you services, or otherwise as is reasonable and customary given the nature of the relationship you have with the Arica School. We may need to retain certain information for record-keeping purposes, and there may also be residual information that will remain within our databases and other records, which will not be removed from such locations. Otherwise, we will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, operate/promote our Site, and to foster our relationship with our users. We have a data retention and destruction plan that dictates the policies and procedures related to deletion and/or destruction of all information/data.

Children’s Privacy/Note to Parents of Children Residing in the EEA, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom

We do not intentionally or knowingly collect, use, or disclose personally identifiable information about EU Visitors to our Site who are less than 16 years of age. If a child under the age of 16 submits information to us through any part of the websites and Arica becomes aware that the user submitting the information is under the age of 16, the information provided will be deleted as soon as it is discovered and not used for any purpose. If you are the parent or guardian of a child under 16 years of age and believe that they have disclosed personally identifiable information to us, please contact us, and please include in your message the same name and email address that you believe your child submitted, if applicable.


Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.

The Arica School is committed to responsible environmental stewardship.

  • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified paper use is in transition presently.
  • A post-consumer high recycled paper content or 100% recycled paper and materials are used whenever possible.
  • Soy- or vegetable-based inks with no or low VOC’s are used.
  • Recycled card stock for yantras (meditational illustrations) is used.
